Steve demands action on roadworks rage

by Steve Ayris on 6 June, 2014

Your local Lib Dem team and I have demanded answers from Labour’s Town Hall bosses about the road resurfacing work in Woodseats.

Thanks to cash secured by Liberal Democrats in Government, our roads are being resurfaced at long last.

That’s great news. But the work – managed by the Labour Council – has brought unnecessary stress, inconvenience, chaos and safety issues since it started in our area.B2014-05-15 12.27.59

Many local people have complained to the Council about the way the scheme has been handled, but without success. Complaints about roadwork delays and inconvenience have been consistently ignored by the Council.

We know that local residents have faced months of a barrier of obstacles and unsecured plastic boards – sometimes just to get into their own homes.

The ongoing work forms part of £1.2 billion Streets Ahead investment, which was secured for Sheffield by Liberal Democrats in Government. However, local people tell us the project has been mismanaged by Labour-run Sheffield Council, leaving residents facing consistent delays and inconvenience.

With such a major scheme, there are bound to be some technical snags, but this situation gphoto 2aoes well beyond what can possibly be seen as reasonable. We’re also seeing a complete lack of response from Labour’s council bosses.

That’s why, as your local Lib Dem councillor, I’m calling on the Council to take seriously their responsibilities for the safety of local pavements and roads.
