Prestigious Graves Centre Plans revealed

by Steve Ayris on 25 April, 2014

Plans have been submitted for a multi-million pound extension and development project incorporating the new National Centre for Sport and Exercise Medicine at Graves Tennis and Leisure Centre.

The plans are expected to be decided by the Council in June. Construction is due to start in September. All year round logo

Graves Leisure Centre was chosen to receive £5m of Coalition Government cash as part of plans to create an Olympic legacy across the country as a national headquarters for Sport and Exercise – one of only three Olympic legacy projects in the UK, and one of the biggest sporting projects to be developed in Sheffield in more than ten years.

Local people can now look forward to a new swimming pool, football pitches, indoor tennis courts, a bigger fitness centre and new gymnastics facilities – all on their doorstep.

While welcoming the investment, local campaigner Steve Ayris and the Lib Dem team have called on the Council to listen to the concerns of local residents about car-parking and traffic. They have backed their call for a barrier and tree planting scheme to block any noise and light.

This is great news for our area – and more evidence that the Lib Dems in Government are continuing to deliver for Sheffield. It’s crucial, though that the plans are adapted to address the concerns of local residents around car-parking and traffic management.
