Liberal Democrat Councillor for Graves Park Ward - Working All Year Round Learn more
by Steve Ayris on 28 December, 2013
Local campaigner Steve Ayris has thanked the thousands of local residents who backed his petition to save Woodseats Library as Sheffield Council revealed it is to remain open.
However Steve is stepping up his fight to save Greenhill and Jordanthorpe libraries which could both close as early as next spring.
Despite spending millions on refurbishing council offices, Park Hill, union officials and consultancy fees; the council are planning to shut 15 local libraries across Sheffield.
Steve said:
“I would like to thank everybody who signed our petition to save Woodseats library – the pressure really did pay off! However our fight continues to keep Sheffield’s other local libraries open as I know how many people in our community depend on them”
“It’s unfair that two libraries in our area could close next year, when there is so much money being wasted by the council on vanity projects.”
Steve added:
“Libraries are a place for people to learn, teach their children to read and access the internet to find jobs – and they also provide a meeting place for many local community groups.
“Shutting them makes no sense when there is Council money being spent on full time Union Officials, Park Hill and expensive consultants.”
“I’m pleased that so many people are backing my campaign by displaying a poster in their window and signing our petition.”
