COUNCIL DITHERING ON ROAD DELAYS DRIVING RESIDENTS CRAZY

by Steve Ayris on 19 November, 2013

Local residents in Woodseats have vented their fury at Sheffield City Council, as the council consistently dither over local road repairs.

Roads in Woodseats, including Broxholme Road, Alsthorpe Road and Nettleham Road, have seen road closure dates consistently changed as part of the city’s historic Streets Ahead project.

Woodseats Streets AheadThe changes have seen residents forced to move their cars, only to return to find that no work has been completed and dates have been changed.

The problem has been felt particularly strongly in Woodseats, where there are high levels of on street parking and few areas of alternative parking.

Jean and Peter Sear, of Broxholme Road, said:

“We are really pleased that our roads and pavements are being made good after years of neglect, but local residents are thoroughly fed up that the only thing happening is the dates are changed on the signs threatening that our cars will be towed away!

“Many residents have no convenient place to park other than ‘on street’. They are prepared to struggle making their own arrangements, but not to be messed around for no benefit. The only thing we have seen is four kerbstones replaced, by four workpeople over three days!”

Cllr Ian Auckland, local Liberal Democrat councillor for Graves Park, said:

“Sheffield has always been known as pot-hole city, so I was delighted when Liberal Democrat in Government secured more than £1 billion to be invested in Sheffield’s road network.

“Undertaking such a massive project would always be a difficult task but the dither and delay has driven residents in Woodseats to despair. The service has been unacceptable, with residents kept in the dark and informed of changes at the last minute.

“What’s most concerning is reports that these problems have been seen across the city – particularly in areas like Woodseats with high levels of on-street parking.”
