Schools in the Graves Park area are set to gain £800k cash this year – thanks to the Lib Dems.
The Pupil Premium is a major Liberal Democrat priority that is being delivered by the Coalition Government. Nine schools in our area will benefit from a total of more than £800k under the Pupil Premium this year.
The Coalition Government announced last December how much Pupil Premium money each school in England will receive in 2013/14.
Introduced in April 2011, the cash targets extra money to schools depending on the number of children from disadvantaged backgrounds they have.
In 2012-13, the Premium was worth £623 for each eligible child (£135 more than in 2011-12) and, in 2013-14, will rise to £900.
Sheffield schools will benefit from a total £18,129,000 cash boost.
This year, local schools in our area of Graves Park alone are set to get a £262k increase on last year and will have benefited from a total £1.6 MILLION since the Pupil Premium was introduced in Apr 2011!

The Pupil Premium will be worth a total of £1.65bn nationally, or £900 per child, in 2013/14. It covers any primary or secondary school pupil that has been registered for Free School Meals in the past six years.
Liberal Democrat Campaigner for Graves Park, Steve Ayris, said:
“With more than £800,000 pouring into schools in our area of Woodseats, Meadowhead, Norton and Norton Lees next year, hundreds of local pupils will benefit. I hope this fund can really start to bridge the attainment gap between the poorest and most affluent pupils in our city.”
“For too long, social background has been a deciding factor in a child’s chances for the future. I am proud that the Liberal Democrats are helping every child in Sheffield to reach their full potential.
“This money does not just help the poorest children, it helps every child. Fewer children falling behind means less disruption in class and a better education for everyone.”
“Liberal Democrats are building a strong economy and a fair society where everyone can get ahead. Education is absolutely at the heart of that.
“The Pupil Premium is extra support for the children who need it the most, whether it is catch-up classes, one-to-one tuition, extra IT support – whatever the school thinks best.
“Helping the most disadvantaged children helps every child. Fewer children falling behind means less disruption in class and a better education for everyone.”
By 2015, The Pupil Premium will be worth a total of £2.5bn a year to schools in England and could reach £1,200 per pupil.
The Pupil Premium was one of four policy priorities that the Liberal Democrats put on the front page of their 2010 General Election manifesto. The others were raising the point at which you start paying Income Tax to £10,000 to give people on low and middle incomes a £700 tax cut; creating jobs by making Britain greener; and measures to clean up politics. The Pupil Premium was one of the key measures argued for by Liberal Democrats during the Coalition negotiations.
