AXED 19 ROUTE TO BE RESTORED

by Steve Ayris on 1 August, 2017

In 2015, the first controversial citywide changes were introduced since local Labour politicians buckled to bus bosses and agreed a so-called local bus ‘partnership’.The new service 19, serving the Thorpe House Estate, replaced the old 17: https://steveayris.mycouncillor.org.uk/2015/08/05/s8-residents-face-huge-cuts-to-bus-services/

Your local Liberal Democrat team surveyed local opinion on this and found an overwhelming desire to keep the existing service and frequency. Changes to the 17 service were supported by just 3.2% of respondents, while only 4.1% believed changes would improve the 20/20a.

Your local Lib Dem team demanded that any plan to reduce the service be dropped permanently.

Following complaints that the new 19 service only goes as far as Chancet Wood and not to Jordanthorpe onwards, your local Lib Dems approached the bus company to extend the service again as this link particularly assisted people in the Meadowhead and Norton area.

Finally, the South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive bosses have conceded, and a new half hourly service between Sheffield Interchange in the city centre, Norton Lees and Woodseats will be back on the timetable from September.
