DERBYSHIRE LANE HOUSING PLAN

by Steve Ayris on 25 November, 2016

trio_hemsworth-road-siteYour Liberal Democrat councillors are standing up against the development of housing on green space between Hemsworth Road and Derbyshire Lane.

The plan announced in the local press would see an unknown number of houses being built on the green space which is currently surrounded by homes. Two houses on Hemsworth Road are rumoured to be knocked down for a possible access point for the development.
Councillor Steve Ayris said

I know how important it is for affordable housing to be built for hard working families in our city. But as local councillors, we have always been opposed to building housing on this particular plot of land because it’s simply not suitable.

The Liberal Democrats believe that housing is needed in our city but it needs to be on suitable land with infrastructure in place to support more residents.

Residents in the homes that surrounds the plot of land have expressed deep worry over the plans.

Councillor Sue Auckland echoed these concerns

This is quite a compact site. I need to understand how the developers expect to build houses without overloading local roads and schools. This is on top of the fact that once again, our city would be losing green space.

The land is currently owned by Hallam University and a planning application is expected to be submitted in the New Year.

Councillors Steve Ayris and Sue Auckland have met with Hallam University and are now are set to meet with developers, Miller Homes, to discuss the plans announced for the site.
